Grapefruit for Weightloss - Try These Grapefruit Recipes

A 2004, 12 week study on grapefruit for weightloss, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, found that participants who ate one-half a grapefruit three times a day, lost an average of 3.6 pounds - with some losing more than 10 pounds in the 3 month period. Does drinking grapefruit juice also help weightloss? Yes, the study found. Those who drank a serving of grapefruit juice with each meal lost an average of 3.3 pounds.

The reason whole grapefruit might work better for weightloss is its high fiber content. With grapefruit juice, of course, the fiber is removed. High fiber diets help us feel full and also help with elimination. Grapefruit are also loaded with vitamin C and other nutrients and are very low calorie. Grapefruit is also low on the glycemic index so it helps keep blood sugar levels stable, which results in better control of appetite.

Grapefruit Tea for Weightloss

Combine 2 cups of grapefruit juice, a dash of cinnamon and honey to taste in a small pan and heat. Enjoy a cup with your meal. The cinnamon also helps boost metabolism and stabilize blood sugar.

Ingredients

2 grapefruit cut up into bite sized pieces
1 orange cut up into bite sized pieces
1/2 cup walnuts chopped -nuts also aid weightloss!
1 cup raspberries or blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/4 cup coconut
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp all spice

Mix nuts and fruit in medium mixing bowl. Sprinkle spices on top and then blend in. Serve.
