100 Healthy Living Tips #17 - How to Declutter Your Life

This fall I decided to declutter my life and my New Year's Resolution is to finish the job. Removing and organizing the clutter in your home or office helps you to take charge of your life and clear your mind and focus on the most essential things.

Looking around you and seeing junk, clutter and a disorganized mess keeps your mind in a constant state of turmoil as well. The best way to get to what's most basic and important in your life is to remove everything that isn't basic and important. If you believe in the law of attraction, what would you rather attract? More clutter or an organized, simplified life?

If you need help decluttering your life, you might want to begin by reading Clean Sweep: The Ultimate Guide to Decluttering, Detoxing, and Destressing Your Home, which gives you a plan for turning every room in your house into a sanctuary of comfort and simplicity, with special green living and cleaning tips.

How I Decluttered My Life

1. I started the decluttering process weeks ago by cleaning out a couple of junk drawers each week. We all have them and sometimes it's a drawer I haven't looked into in months or even years! Do I really need all that stuff? Have I used it lately? I cleaned out my closet too, sorting through clothes giving a bunch of them away. One wonderful way to get good energy flowing into your life is to create room for it by giving things away.

2. Next, I cleaned my carpets. The reason I did this as one of the first jobswas that I had to move everything in the room to use the carpet cleaner and then move it back.

3.  Before I moved anything back where I had it, I asked myself "Do I really need this item?" The things I didn't need went into the give-away pile. You could also start a garage sale pile if you are so inclined.

4.  Also, before putting items back where they were, I made changes in furniture and knick knacks to give everything a fresh look. I looked for ways to better use the furniture, organizers and bookcases I had to help me organize and simplify.

5.  I was very severe with myself on throwing away old magazines (make a folder of any articles you want to save and label them as to topic) and organized important papers. Buy organizers or shelves as you need them to help you find a place for everything.

6.  In my case, I decided to buy a larger desk to give me more workspace. I've been cramped up on a small computer desk for 5 years and I'm relishing the great expance of desk around me.

Simplifying your life and getting rid of clutter can have an energizing effect on your life. What are your dreams and goals, what do you want to accomplish? Decluttering your environment helps you to focus on what's truly important and saves you time. AND decluttering your life helps you to feel really proud of yourself because you aren't looking with guilt at all the organizing you wish you had time to do.

Law of Attraction Quote for the Day

The Law of Attraction Quote for the Day: "You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are." Think about your life. What do you see around you? You may want many things but what you have in your life is what you are and what you believe about yourself at the deepest level of your being.

I have 2 friends who don't believe at all in the law of attraction. One has given up ever having anything financially and the other worries all the time about money, thinking she will never have enough, she'll lose her job or whatever. They tell me, "If the law of attraction is real, everybody would be living in a mansion" or "I need to win the lottery. I'm telling the Universe to send me a lottery win but it never happens."

Should I tell them that they are proving the law of attraction is real? Should I tell them they are attracting what they are and what they believe about their own lives?

When I first started reading about the law of attraction, I "worked on" my own prosperity issues. I joined Bob Doyle's Wealth Beyond Reason course, which helped me to find out who I really am and what I believed about my life - AND how to change it. The Wealth Beyond Reason program isn't about attracting only wealth in money but wealth in all aspects of your life.

Now, what I believe about my life is that I always have more than enough money. I have good health, I am happy and live just the life I want to live. I do have goals for the future but I'm always focusing on being happy and grateful in the meantime. In this way, I hope to attract more of what I am, not just attracting what I say I want at any given time.

I told one friend of mine (who does believe in the law of attraction) this saying and she said "Yikes! This isn't good!" She is always living on the edge financially and struggles with money issues. Even though she knows what her issues are, she still has a hard time really changing these down deep.

It isn't always easy to change the way you feel and believe about yourself but it's not impossible. Wayne Dyer said "Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change."

This has certainly been true in my own life. Learning about the law of attraction helped me to focus on areas of my life that needed tending to, like forgiveness, accepting others and not trying to change them, being happy in the moment and trusting in the future.

Here are some free Law of Attraction resources if you would like to learn more.

You Can Heal Your Life Affirmations Kit

Recently I saw the Louise Hay Movie, "You Can Heal Your Life" and loved it. I decided to order her You Can Heal Your Life affirmations kit, after learning in the movie how affirmations can make such a difference in allowing good things into my life.

Many people may have read the Abraham books by Ester and Jerry Hicks. In the extended version of Louise Hay's movie, Abraham gave me a totally new perspective on affirmations. If you've read the books, you know the steps in the Law of Attraction philosophy: Ask, Receive, Allow.

Abraham said that many people think that affirmations are in step one, the asking. The truth is tho, that affirmations are in step three. Affirmations help us to allow what has already been given to us. Affirmations help you wrap your mind around the idea that whatever you ask for is granted.

I thought the You Can Heal Your Life Affirmations kit would help me to allow more good things into my life and I was not disappointed. One thing I loved about it was the beautiful magnetic board with magnetic words and letters so you can create your own affirmations and put them in a spot you'll see every day. There are also affirmation cards to carry with you.

The affirmations kit includes an audio CD that you can listen to daily and a little guidebook with explanations and exercises, plus dozens of great affirmations to help you get started.

Since receiving this great affirmations kit, I've used it daily and it's helping me to achieve a life of greater health and prosperity, plus I just feel better all day long. I've begun replacing all negative thoughts that cross my mind with positive, life affirming thoughts which are creating more loving relationships in my life and are opening me up to receive the prosperity that the Universe has in escrow for me.

If you've struggled putting the Law of Attraction into practice in your life, I'd highly recommend Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life Affirmation Kit.

A Review You Can Heal Your Life - The Movie

You Can Heal Your Life The Movie by Louise Hay 125x125

I saw Louise Hay on Oprah's show recently where she talked about her new movie, You Can Heal Your Life so I decided to order it. It was terrific. If you've seen The Secret and were left thinking "the law of attraction was a great idea but how do I implement it?" then this movie is for you.

Louise Hay is a very spry 80 years old now and she has hundreds of books to her name, most published by her Hay House Publishing. Hay House also publishes other inspirational authors like my favorite, Wayne Dyer.

For some reason, although I've read many, many books on the law of attraction and manifesting your life, I'd never read any by Louise Hay. After seeing this movie, I will be reading some of her books!

This movie contains interviews with Louise, Wayne Dyer, Ester Hicks and Abraham, Christiane Northrup, Cheryl Richardson, Dorene Virtue and others, all talking about their own experiences and how to create your life through your thoughts.

The main thrust of much of the movie is about how creating affirmations for your life, keeping them in front of you and repeating them many times a day can help you change thought patterns set by a life time of self criticism, self doubt, even self loathing. Whatever story you've been telling yourself hundreds of times a day, can be changed to a better one.

I got the extended version of the movie and I'm glad I did. It contained the full interviews with the people in the movie. One interview contained a real AAAHHHAAA moment for me.

I've read nearly every Abraham book by Ester and Jerry Hicks and i know their formula for manifesting your life: Ask, Receive, Allow. As we all probably know, it's the allowing that hangs us up, due mostly to our own mental conditioning and what we believe is true. Abraham said whatever we ask for, we receive instantly but then we must allow it into our lives. Many people think saying the affirmations belongs in step one. It's where we start, right? No. Affirmations are really step 3. What we ask for has always and already been granted to us (maybe in a form we don't yet see or appreciate it) and by saying the affirmations, we allow it into our lives.

One problem I had with the movie, The Secret, was that Ester Hicks and Abraham and Wayne Dyer were not in it. They have been writing about conscious creation for over 25 years and their absence, to me, was glaring. The Secret may be a good place to start, but You Can Heal Your Life is a better place to finish.

If you've struggled with how to put the Law of Attraction into action in your life, see this movie! If you can't afford the extended version, at least get the movie itself.

Don't Worry About the Economy!

Economic bad news seems to be all around us right now. How do you feel about the economy? Is your family personally hurting or have you found ways to cope? Do you feel like the economy is getting worse or do you think the media is magnifying the bad news?

What I believe is that if you worry over bad times, you are only creating more of that in your own life. You might say, "I have all these bills I can't pay and that's a FACT." "Everything is costing more and that's a FACT." How do you argue with FACTS?I believe that so called facts are only what you believe them to be and they are only true because you believe them to be true for you. These things may be a fact in some people's lives because they believe that is what they are stuck with but it doesn't have to be true for YOU.

The fact is, altho you may have bills you can't pay RIGHT NOW, it is not a fact that you are stuck with this as a truth unless you want it to be.

Sure, some things are costing more but some things are not costing more. Are there substitutions you can make to products that are less costly, say using store brands? Are you clipping coupons, shopping sales? The other day, I saved $20 at the grocery store with a combo of coupons and selecting certain products the store had on sale. The deal was, buy 10 of the sale items and get $5 off your grocery bill. Since these were products, I already use, I bought 20 items and saved $10 right there.

The fact is, there are always opportunities out there and some people do thrive in all sorts of economic times. Some jobs seem pretty recession proof. Fear freezes you into inaction, while proceeding with confidence in yourself and what can be true for you inspires all sorts of plans and ideas to create the life you want.

At any given moment, you are free to choose. Rather than worry and fret and fear the future, what if you just let that go? What if you decided to view the future with confidence? What if you proceeded "as if" the ideas, the money, the inspiration would all be there when you need it?

What would it cost you to see the future with a positive attitude? Can you let go of the fear or are you clinging to it? How is the fear helping you? Is it helping you?

Fear blocks creativity and puts negative energy into your life. Is that helping you?

Sometimes fear keeps you from running up credit cards or making a purchase you know you can't afford. However, you don't have t make those decisions out of fear. Why not say, "When the time is right, I will have the money for those things I want to purchase?" Just try to view it as a practical step to getting where you want to be, not as a decision inspired by fear.

If you let go of the fear and open yourself to new ideas, you may be amazed at what happens.

Perhaps you've had a dream that you put on the back burner and a way will suddenly come to you as to how you could accomplish it. Perhaps you'll stumble across a business or product you'd love to promote or be part of. Maybe you'll come up with an idea for a website or blog that could earn you money.

Here are some things you can do to help you let go of fear:

  • Turn your back on toxic conversations about the economy. Don't take part in the gloom and doom thinking.
  • Create a plan. Action and empowerment turn fears into positives. What things can you do to improve your situation?
  • Think about and focus on what is good in your life. Be grateful for what you have, no matter how small it may seem at the moment. Focus on the good and the good will grow in your life.
  • Visualize the life you want and return to that vision over and over through out the day. See it as real. Know that this is what your life will be.
  • Take the negatives out of your speech. Don't talk about the "bad" economy, don't complain, don't focus on those things. Instead, look for positives to focus on.
  • Try meditating to connect with your inner self. If you don't feel like you can meditate, at least steal 5 or 10 minutes per day to yourself to quiet your mind and focus on pleasant things.
  • Try deep breathing if you do feel fearful. Focus on relaxing your body and you mind.

Just remember, Whatever you focus on is what grows. What are you focusing on?

Law of Attraction-What to to When You're Stuck!

Recently, I found myself sliding back into my old ways of negative thinking and felt that the Law of Attraction just wasn’t working for me very well. Certain areas of my life just didn’t seem to be going the way I wanted them to and I didn’t know what to do. What I wanted was some direction in what I should do with my life and it just wasn’t coming.

Then a couple weeks ago, I took a trip with my husband and daughter to Washington, DC. We live in Texas, and altho I spent quite a bit of time on the East Coast when I was younger, I hadn’t been there for 20 years. Let me add too, that we never take vacations that aren’t related to visiting relatives or going to softball tournaments.

While we were gone for those 6 days, I decided to put everything in my life on hold and just enjoy the moment - being with my husband and 21 year old daughter, seeing new sites (much had changed in DC since my last visit), having a great holiday with no cooking, no cleaning, no housework, no worries over jobs and “what should I do with my life?”

While we were gone, I decided that when I got home, I would start all over again at the beginning with the Law of Attraction. I got out books I’d read that inspired me, like some by Wayne Dyer, I bought his new book too on the TAO and also the Abraham Hicks new book on The Amazing Power of Emotions. I decided not to pressure myself anymore and just observe.

When I was walking my dogs one day, I started thinking about what my life was at this moment, what I’d wanted to manifest in my life. I discovered a strange thing - many of the things I’d wanted to manifest a few months ago had come into my life but not in a way I expected so I didn’t really recognize them.

My husband and I wanted to travel but of course, money is always an issue. Well, the cost of our trip to DC was greatly offset because my husband went there for his job. He had to go there for training and we went a few days early to see the sites. We also got a nice trip to Galveston this summer, all planned by my step daughter and in the form of a family reunion, where we all shared the cost, which again made the travel affordable.

I am a freelance writer and last fall lost a very lucrative contract. Since then, I’ve been looking for something to replace this and haven’t found it. However, on my list of “how I want to live my life” was doing something to help others, having time for contemplation, meditation and yoga, etc. Altho I haven’t gotten a “job of my dreams” the past few months, my husband had gotten 2 promotions at work which put extra money into our budget.

Also, our daughter is a college student. Although she pays for all tuition, etc herself with scholarships, we had been paying things like car insurance, groceries, etc. This summer she got a very well paying part time job (talk about using the Law of Attraction!) which pays her extremely well per project and it takes only a couple days to do each one. This freed up more money for our budget.

We are fortunate in that we don’t really have money issues - however, retirement is looming!

Anyway, I realized that I had manifested what I desired, only not in the typical form of finding a well paying job for myself. With the extra money in our budget, I am free to devote more time to projects of my own that -at the moment at least - aren’t earning much money. I am further developing my health website and also starting a new one on
eco-friendly living - a topic I feel is important. On our trip to DC, I also rediscovered my passion for history and am outlining a historical novel.

This has also freed up time to help my husband’s daughter with some babysitting for her one-year-old daughter. This beautiful little girl has greatly added to my life in many, many ways and I look forward to a long and cherished relationship with her and her 4 year old brother.

I guess what I wanted to express is that if you think the Law of Attraction isn’t working, step back and take an inventory of your life. Maybe some of your dreams have manifested but you didn’t recognize them for what they are because they didn’t come to you in a way you were expecting and anticipating.

I am now trying to follow advice given to me by a friend - That once you decide to follow your path to higher consciousness, then assume that everything that happens is part of your path. Instead of seeing problems, see opportunities.

Raise your vibration!
