Miracle Chia Seeds

When you think Chia Seeds, you probably think of those little Chia pets that are so popular at Christmas time. Think again. The chia seed is the newest in superfoods and a terrific addition to your diet.

Chia seeds were a staple food source for the Native American and Aztec people for centuries. The amazing chia seed contains:
  • B Vitamins
  • Omega 3 fatty acids
  • Fiber
  • Boron
  • Protein
  • Antioxidants
  • Calcium
Adding Chia Seeds to your diet helps with:

  • weight loss
  • diabetes
  • heart disease
  • digestive disorders
  • diabetes
  • bone health
Chia seeds contain up to 60% omega-3 fatty acids, higher than any plant that's known. They have the added benefit that they don't need to be ground up, like flax seeds, for instance.

Between 19-23% of the weight of chia seeds is protein, which is also higher than any other seed or grain.

Chia seeds contain about 5 times the calcium of milk, plus it contains boron, which also supports bone health.

Since chia seeds absorb up to 30 times their weight in water, they add 4-5 grams of fiber to your diet with a 15 gram serving. We need to consume 35+ grams of fiber per day and 1 tbs of chia

Combined with the high protein content, chia seeds are a dieter's dream. They balance blood sugar and fill you up, plus give you much needed protein to help build muscle.

The gel formed when Chia seeds are mixed with water creates a physical barrier between the carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down. This causes the carbs to be digested at a slow, uniform rate so there is no insulin surge or spike in blood sugar after eating chia seeds.

How Much Chia Seed Should You Eat?

Recommendations for consuming chia seeds are at least 2-4 tablespoons per day.

So just how do you use Chia seeds? Simply add them to anything you currently eat. They have little to no flavor so you can put them in your morning smoothie, yogurt or cereal.

How to Use Chia Seed

To make chia seed gel, simply put 9 parts of water into a sealable plastic container. Slowly pour one part seed into the water, then mix with a wire whisk or fork. This process will avoid clumping of the seed. Wait a few minutes and stir again to break up any clumps there are. Let stand 10 minutes and stir again. Store up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Add any of this gel to foods such as peanut butter, jams, jellies, tartar sauce and more to promote energy and endurance.
