Tomato Scare - What to Do?

Since this blog is about health, and recently tomatoes have been causing salmonellosis poisoning, I thought this would be a great time to talk about the safety of our food supply. At the end of this article, I will post a link to the FDA's website where you can find out the latest safety info.

So far, the FDA hasn't been able to pin down the source of these tomatoes but some states have been cleared. The FDA is also saying it's safe to eat cherry and grape tomatoes, those still on the vine in the store and those grown at home by consumers.

Here in Texas, there have been 35 cases of sickness as of today. The recent scare, however, is just the tip of the iceburg on the subject of the safety of our food supply. At the end of this article, I will put a link to further reading on the shocking truth about the "healthy" foods in America.

Here are some things I'm doing to protect myself and my family.

1. I belong to an organic food coop which gave us half dozen great tomatoes this week. These are all locally and organically grown by trusted sources.

2. I picked up a package of sun-dried tomatoes at the store yesterday for recipes. Did you know that eating sun dried tomatoes twice a week reduces a man's risk of prostate cancer by 35%?

3. To get whole food nutrition from a reliable source, I eat The Feast and Beyond Berries every day. Every scoop of The Feast provides 1000’s of naturally occurring nutritional compounds from fresh wholefood concentrates and 70+ nutrient dense concentrates from fresh live whole foods.
